Old Windsor Carnival - Then and Now

This weekend is the annual carnival in Old Windsor, and whilst I was explaining to my work colleagues what a Donkey Derby is and why I wasn't surprised it was raining, Donkey Derby night is historically the wettest night in Old Windsor!

A chance purchase of some cinefilm at a carboot by a Katherine Mammone lead her to get funding from Ideas Tap to produce a second film to accompany the original of the Carnival in 1972 for her degree show. That year was the year Billy Smart came to town,  and that was the year I was born!

Fast forward a few years, and whilst being in the 2nd Brownies I got my float moment - can you guess the title of the float?

I'm second from the left in the second row, the shortest bunny!  The theme title - Watership Down

nice and cheerful then!

PS My sister also had her float moment as an Arab on Concorde, the parents made an impressive cardboard Concorde but sadly I don't have a photo or theme title, but trust me, it was good!

Holiday Days Out : part four

This was our last official day out, as in, get in the car and drive a long distance with snacks. Bob and I went to Ardingly Antiques and Collectors fair in you've guessed it West Sussex! Weather was still good if not a little breezy, this must be the first time I've been to this fair and it's not rained…

below, she'll go nicely in this room. 

I also bought the little round mirror, I'm putting together a collection of these frameless mirrors for our front room, I fancied a round one! My next purchase needed a little negotiation, not with the trader, but with Bob. I have a fetish for 70's toys, our house is groaning under the weight of them. When I spied this house I knew I was in trouble...

I had a house just like this as a child, It's by an English company called Toy Works and is 16th scale. Mine disintegrated in the loft, although most of the furniture you see is my original stuff. I already have a Lundby House and a Carolines Home and have agreed to dispose of one of my others to make room for this.

I also haggled for a large amount of Sindy stuff, most of which I didn't want, but I'd spied nestled in the box a Sindy wall of sound…fabulous!!! Nearly *fainted* after a purchase of a battery and bulb from our local electrical shop (fab place) I found it all works *excitement*

I think i'll be ebaying some of my unwanted stuff and hopefully that should help pay for the stuff I keep!

So that's my holiday days out done and dusted, the beach chairs are back in the shed, the windbreaks rolled up ready for next time, and its goodbye to this bridge.  We go under this every time we head for the South Coast, I use this as a sign that we're on my way to a little adventure by the sea!

This week Bob and I have had a whirlwind of days out, for once the weather's been good to us.

Cute Camper

A week or so ago we went to a small bike shop called PedalPushers (great name) to get some tyres for my vintage push bike. On the way we passed a handmade sale being held in pub (what's not to love). After ordering the tyres we went to find the pub sale, now this sale was down a road we couldn't seem to get to it by car , so we went by foot with our trusty wits as navigation and we stumbled on this really cute road...

 just enough to get a car down and lined by trees.

How fantastic is this camper, the chap working on it and was only to happy for me to take her picture, I love the interior wallpaper and exterior colour!

The sale was very small and a little hard to get any descent photos. But on the way

back we did purchase one thing!

Things I like about summer 1

These are mint pea and chickpea burgers with tzatziki (sans breadcrumbs)

from the Waitrose recipe everyday menus

You will need

400g Chick peas, drained

300g Marrowfat peas, drained

2tsp mint sauce

200g tub of Tzatziki (although you only need 2tbsp for recipe)

1 egg beaten

50g breadcrumbs

2 tbsp vegetable oil

the method couldn't be easier

chuck chickpeas, marrowfat peas and mint sauce with the tzatziki into a food processor and whizz into a coarse paste and season. Scoop out and mould into burger shapes (as above)

DIp burgers into the beaten egg followed by the breadcrumbs

Heat oil in a large frying pan and gently fry for approx 3 mins each side until golden

Serve with remaining tzatziki and a pitter and a nice fresh side salad.

This only took about 30mins to do so doesn't eat into those all important leisure hours!
